Cleansers or face wash are the first product that go into your skin care. It is essential that you get the right product to suit you skin type, so that it gently cleanses your skin without making it look like the Sahara.

Ingredients for Oily and Acne Prone Skin

Oily skin should look for facewashes and cleansers that gently remove the sebum without being too drying. Try avoiding face wash extensively marketed towards oily skin. Eg: Clean & Clear – it’ll just strip your skin of the oils and make it more oilier in the long run.

Ingredients to look for in your facewash/cleanser includes:

1. Salicylic acid (regulates oil production)
2. Glycolic acid (regulates oil production)
3. Clays (removes oil)
4. Vitamin C (brightens skin)

I am listing the facewashes, which are free of most harmful additives, and are easy and gentle on oily skin in the order of their price.

Cleansers/Facewash for oily skin in India (online):

1. Saslic Foaming Facewash – 60ml – Rs 350

A foaming face wash which contains the goodness of salicylic acid (1%). Two pumps are sufficient for cleaning your face. Easily available at the pharmacies.

2. Simple Kind To Skin Refreshing Facial Wash

A pH balanced facewash which is fragrance free and sulphate free. Gentle on the skin and does not strip your skin of all the oils. A total value for money.

3. Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant

A mild, soap-free, fragrance-free cleansing gel, which contains micellar. Not only does it helps in getting rid of the impurities, but removes the sunscreen effectively too. Creates minimum foam and effectively cleans your skin without making it too dry.

4. Plum Green Tea Pore Cleansing Face Wash

Contains the goodness of glycolic acid (for gentle exfoliation) and green tea. It is a mild and gentle facewash which does not dry out your skin.

5. Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam

As far as the ingredient list goes, this one is my personal favorite as it contains the minimal number of ingredients. A gentle face wash which does not strip your face off the natural oils – containing lactic acid and Vitamin B5 both of which moisturise your skin.

6. COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

A gentle facewash with a clear gel texture. It has low PH, and effectively removes dirt and excess oils from the face. Contains goodness of glycerine, tea tree, Vitamin B5, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid.

MRP: Rs 720/150ml

7. COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser

The best salicylic (0.5%) face wash I have used. It has the goodness of glycerin, willow bark water, tea tree oil. Only a pea sized amount is needed for the entire face – a total steal.

8. Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser

A mild and gentle cleanser. A good option for people with acne prone and sensitive skin. Leaves skin feeling refreshed and hydrated. The bottle lasts for a long time – more than 3 months if you use it twice a day.

Note: If your cleanser has active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, niacinamide etc, then make sure to use sunscreen as well.
